If Jack really wants to improve and transform himself, the first step is to become aware of the weaknesses which may be holding him back and preventing his evolution:

– his tendency to escape into fantasy
– his hunger for approval
– his longing for the past
– his fear of the future
– his investment systems

Jack sometimes senses a conflict between his desire for social and professional success and his need for a stable, secure domestic life. Jack is deeply committed to both ideas and does not always succeed in reconciling their schedules and demands on him. Sometimes it feels as though Jack will never be able to find a balance. However, no job promotion will really satisfy Jack if he has neglected his most intimate needs and desires. Although it sometimes seems easier to Jack to climb the rungs of the career ladder out there in the real world, if he merely sacrifices his domestic life, he is only trying to fool himself. Jack should accept the fact that his domestic life is the true basis and foundation of his development. All his career endeavors and success will be even more rewarding if they are supported by a safe, warm personal life.

In Jack’s efforts to accumulate wealth and social power, he sometimes betrays a lack of toleration for other people’s belief systems and values. Although he trusts his own talent for business, finance, and investments thoroughly, he should be aware that he is liable to make some errors in judgment. Because he identifies so strongly with his own individual habits and work routines and isn’t as keen to learn from others, he may waste his energy at times.

As we suggested earlier, Jack Avery is endowed with great sensitivity and has profound aspirations, especially romantic ones. Nevertheless, Jack’s spirit is sometimes too delicate for Jack to have armored and structured Jack for the constraints of life out there in the real world. Moreover, Jack sees little point in devoting Jack to fulfilling the demands of practical reality, which strike Jack as rather futile and empty. Jack’s escapes into Jack’s fantasy world give Jack the illusion of a much greater reward. Jack tends to gloss over Jack’s vision of other people, and when they reveal their imperfections and incompetence, Jack feels guilty for them and suffer from Jack’s own vulnerability and illusions. Jack would do well to try to be more selective about the people Jack associates with; when Jack is moving in a dream world, Jack attracts the kind of dishonest people who are likely to take advantage of Jack.
