Consciousness and The Ideal of Self:
Sean Lew is searching for stability; Sean Lew wants to find a firm, unchanging structure for Sean Lew’s life. But Sean Lew’s efforts to achieve this ideal are often vain, because unconsciously, Sean Lew is also inhabited by the opposite desire. Every time Sean Lew reaches what Sean Lew believes to be a good balance, Sean Lew realizes Sean Lew wants something entirely different. Sean Lew would do well to become aware that the concepts of stability and balance are difficult to apply to life. By definition, life is movement, change, and perpetual instability.
Sean Lew has a paternal complex and, as a result, some trouble finding his identity. Perhaps his father or a father figure was absent physically or emotionally during his childhood, which deprived him of the patterns or models which are usually helpful in structuring a personality. Because he might have lacked a particular sense of security which could be provided by a paternal presence, as well as the examples of behavior to follow in confronting the difficulties inherent in every life, he was forced to protect himself against negative influences and find his own system in order to grow and feel secure.
Although this system was quite useful to him as a child, it has now settled in to such a degree that it interferes with his evolution. Psychological defense mechanisms and crutches which were once useful now encumber his mind or inhibit his developmental efforts. As a result, in certain situations, it is difficult for him to assert himself, and he tends to remain an awkward or passive observer. Because his authoritarian urges are mainly directed at himself rather than others, he sometimes feels guilty about his behavior. He judges himself severely, and sometimes punishes himself by setting difficult tasks for himself. Gradually, he should build up a strong inner discipline and acquire the strength to face the problems of existence in a detached and mature way.
At the moment of Sean Lew’s birth, the two celestial “lights” (the sun and the moon) were symmetrically aligned. This is a portent of harmony between the masculine and feminine archetypes which is extremely beneficial. It is the source of balance and understanding between the two main psychological realms which may be said to compose the personality. Sean Lew thus enjoys a positive complementarity and understanding between the conscious and unconscious aspects of his psyche, between his determination and his routines, between his drive for self-assertion and his receptivity, his ideal and his sensitivity.
Sean Lew’s parents almost certainly reflected a positive image of the marriage relationship to him, and it is likely that they encouraged him to develop his own individuality. As a result, Sean Lew was and is able to be comfortable with himself as he is instead of striving to attain his parents’ ideal. This has definitely contributed to the maintenance of a good relationship with them and the rest of the family.
In Sean Lew’s emotional relationships with his peers, one of the effects of the masculine/feminine harmony is that the images his ego projects on the other are especially constructive. The bonds of the relationship are not felt to be constraints, the energy which flows between the two people is a source of mutual happiness, not regret. No major personal conflicts are projected onto the “other” – that is, the significant other.
Sean Lew has a profound and fertile inner life and a prolific imagination, but their energy resources are not always sufficient to follow through on and accomplish their multitude of dreams. They tend to live in osmosis with their environment, and effort and action take a heavy toll on them. Usually, they understand phenomena and events intuitively, without really making any effort; so they are not in the habit of disciplining or shaping their thought processes. Like their thoughts, their personality is rather amorphous and disorganized. As a result of this lack of structure, they may have some trouble asserting their individuality and making some personal contribution to society through their career. Their tendency to shut out reality and dream impossible dreams, like their refusal of responsibility and duty, may be a source of some difficulty for them.
Adaptation and Sensitivity:
Lively and expressive, Sean Lew has a personality which is sometimes agitated but straightforward. Unconscious feelings of insecurity compel Sean Lew to act and sometimes to seek the admiration of others. As a result, Sean Lew is unable to bear idleness and routine, and is in search of perpetual excitement. Sean Lew’s reactions to others are highly individual and depend on the mood Sean Lew is in at any given moment. A person of decision, a businessperson or an athlete, Sean Lew often personifies boldness and impetuosity. Sean Lew’s love life is liable to be fiery, as it obeys the imperatives of Sean Lew’s desire for freedom and independence, and Sean Lew’s need for change.
Sean Lew is an expansive, affable, and communicative associate. Indeed, some people find him generous almost to a fault! He gives of himself and his resources unstintingly. Paradoxically, there are times when he is self-focused. He reacts instinctively, without taking the trouble to analyze a given situation, and are prone to misjudge. As a result, his everyday life may be riddled with a whole variety of practical problems. Indeed, he senses a conflict between his social life and his family and will sometimes find it hard to fulfill himself in both spheres at the same time. His attitude toward his private life may inhibit his ambitions for social or career expansion; at worst, society (the law) may impinge on his private life. He should be careful not to project his personal problems onto his partner. If, instead, he analyzes the problem together, he could find opportunities to resolve it together.
Out of either shyness or caution, Sean Lew hides and protects his sensitivity behind a fairly cool, aloof exterior. He is fairly conservative, respectful of tradition and convention, and likes to follow the rules. Because he needs stability to alleviate his feelings of frustration and sometimes emotional dependency, he has great faith in contracts which seal relationships. His ties to his past are fairly strong. They are a source of reassurance and safety, because his parents likely gave a lot to him.
Sean Lew is a highly sensitive and imaginative person who sometimes has trouble distinguishing dreams from reality. Although Sean’s imagination can be an abundant source of inspiration for creative or spiritual evolution, it tends to be less helpful and positive in matters that concern earning a decent living out in the real world. In a relationship, Sean is extremely romantic and does not always see others the way they really are. Sean has elegant tastes and art and beauty are one of Sean’s chief pleasures in life.
Sean Lew does not always readily reveal himself, and he tends to protect his sensitivity. He has a penchant for intense emotions. Sexuality is a prominent element in his life, and his relationships, which are usually passionate, are motivated by his desires. He likes to understand the hidden side of people, their secret or unconfessed motivations. He would thus find a career which placed him in contact with troubled people especially rewarding.
Love and Sensuality:
Sean Lew’s attractions are usually immediate and intense. They rise quickly to fever pitch. The story of these passions is often dramatic to excess, combining all the plot elements of a classic love tragedy: jealousy, possessiveness, agony as an erotic stimulant, etc.
Sean Lew’s birth chart indicates an emotional function which is expressed in a direct and fairly impulsive way. Sean Lew enjoys reaching out to other people and making discoveries. An eternal teenager with Sean Lew’s gaze riveted on the future, Sean Lew is imbued with an eminently subjective and personal idealism.
Always riding on a wave of enthusiasm in love, Sean Lew is bold and uninhibited. His frankness is sometimes devastating. A strong-minded woman, he is not ready to surrender either his freedom or his taste for adventure. His idealism may cause him to place loved ones on a pedestal, leaving him open to disillusionment. Nevertheless, he is ready to devote to the moral support of the mate he chooses.
Sean Lew exerts an odd and somewhat mysterious power of attraction. But Sean Lew is irresistibly lured to partners who break Sean Lew’s heart, and Sean Lew seems almost to have an affinity for tormented but intense relationships. In a rage of disappointment, Sean Lew is likely to go from total love to total indifference. Sean Lew is especially attracted to possessive and complex people.
Sean Lew has the fiery, importunate nature of a fervent lover. Indeed, affairs of the heart are one of his main purposes in life. His personal charm and magnetism are compellingly seductive; unfortunately, his attempts at conquest do not always lead to the fulfillment and satisfaction of his desires. Due to his impulsiveness and impatience to initiate new encounters, his approach to those he is attracted to may sometimes lack tact and delicacy. As a result of the foregoing, it may be somewhat difficult for him to maintain stable and harmonious relationships. Indeed, his emotional behavior is subject to a conflict between his quest for love and his need to satisfy his lust. His outpourings of affection and his need to be loved in return sometimes create complicated situations in which lust may be confused with love, or love may exist without lust, and he may feel unrequited or unfulfilled. This inner contradiction is a sign of his tendency to derive pleasure from suffering – either his own or that of his partner. The relationship thus becomes the setting for a sort of power struggle, weakening it as a source of psychological equilibrium. Nevertheless, he could sublimate this difficulty through artistic expression.
Sean Lew has an ardent and amorous character, and his relationships are enlivened by intensity and passion. A charmer perpetually engaged in a quest for the ideal love, Sean is often more in love with the idea of love than with a partner. As a result, his love life may be subject to some instability. Sean is generally attracted to original people who defy norms, standards, and classifications, and expect them to amaze and fascinate him. His greatest contradictions surface when an intimate relationship is established. Although Sean merges his ego entirely into the couple, he is likely to demand a total autonomy and liberty which are inimical to intimacy. If his partner charms and captivates him long enough, there is some possibility that they will form a more solid bond with him; otherwise, Sean is likely to yield to his need for novelty and fall under the spell of an entirely different person who exerts a new kind of charm for him.
Midlife may be a turning point for Sean from this point of view. His contradictory attitude may in some ways hide a compulsion to reject and deny the bonds of dependency inherent to a love relationship. Sean’s behavior enables him to remain aloof, to commit himself only halfway without consciously admitting it to himself, and to avoid feeling guilty if and when he loses interest. An insatiable appetite for novelty and exaltation sometimes keeps Sean from forming stable relationships.
Indeed, Sean is tormented by the struggle between his undeniable need for affection and an equally imperious desire for personal progress and emancipation. As a result of this inner turmoil, Sean’s romantic aspirations are usually sabotaged sooner or later by his conviction that his partner has become an obstacle to his individual progress. Because he thinks of love as a restraint, Sean may even eventually consciously refuse any emotional approach to love interests. As an ascetic, he will try to deflect the love function from its natural target and use the energy and bliss it generates for other purposes, the process psychologists call sublimation. However, Sean is also likely to meet “the one” who inspires him to initiate a change in his behavior.
Mental and Intellect:
Curious, skeptical, and pragmatic, Sean Lew has a shrewd, inquisitorial mind. He always tries to detect the hidden mechanisms and processes behind the phenomena he observes. As a result, he has developed an ability to detect the truth behind appearances and the cause behind the effect. Although this way of thinking is based on a certain logic, and there is evidence of structure and cohesion in his deductive approach, it is not always purely intellectual. Indeed, its sources lie in a certain empiricism, in facts which have been experienced, so it is open to improvement. For this reason, its fields of application are highly diverse, although research in the hard sciences, psychology, and metaphysics seem to be the best career choices.
Sean Lew expresses his thoughts and ideas in direct, spontaneous outbursts. He is fairly extroverted and eager to discover and understand the outer world. An idealist, he looks forward to a bright future but is sometimes subjective and reckless.
